New England Patriots great wide-receiver Julian Edelman is bringing down the curtain on an illustrious career, although plagued by innumerable injuries.

Shortly after the Patriots released him with a failed physical designation, Edelman officially announced his retirement in a pre-recorded farewell video at Gillette Stadium posted on his official social media handle. 

"I have always said that I am going to go until the wheels come off. They have finally fallen off. Due to an injury last year, I will be making my official announcement of my retirement from football." he said in the video.

As he finishes his Patriots career, Edelman will sign off with 620 catches for 6,822 receiving yards and 36 touchdowns, three Super Bowl rings, and a Super Bowl MVP. 

"It was a hell of a run. I can’t forget you, Patriots Nation. You welcomed me and my family to a region that we didn’t know but now I am one of you," Edelman added in the video, which he captioned "Foxboro forever."
