Nearly ten years ago, a meteor hurtled into the Pacific Ocean at a speed greater than that of 95% of the surrounding stars. However, according to astronomer Avi Loeb of Harvard University, it might not have actually been a space rock.

Loeb now believes he has discovered remnants of alien technology from the meteor in the waters off the coast of Papua New Guinea. He recently returned the items to Harvard for analysis with his team. According to reports, the US Space Command can say with 99.999% certainty that the object originates from another solar system.

“It’s the first time that humans are holding in their hands material from a big object that came from interstellar space,” Loeb said Wednesday. “Either it’s a rock that was made in an environment very different than the solar system because the material strength was tougher than all space rocks, including iron meteorites. But it’s also possible that it was some kind of a technological gadget,” he added.

Who is Avi Loeb?

Avi Loeb is an Israeli-American theoretical physicist and cosmologist. He presently holds the position of Professor of Science and Chair of the Department of Astronomy at Harvard University.

The study of black holes, the early cosmos, and the hunt for extraterrestrial life are some areas in which Loeb has made substantial contributions within the fields of astrophysics and cosmology. He has written a large number of scholarly articles on a variety of subjects, such as the origins of stars, the evolution of galaxies, and the properties of dark matter.

In addition to his scientific work, Avi Loeb has drawn notice for his contentious opinions and conjectures on the potential presence of extraterrestrial civilizations and the characteristics of the ‘Oumuamua’ interstellar object.

Avi Loeb has drawn attention for his scientific achievements as well as for his contentious opinions and conjectures on the nature of Oumuamua and the presence of extraterrestrial civilizations.

He co-authored an article in 2018 that explored the possibility that the object Oumuamua, which passed through our solar system, may have been created artificially, setting off a heated debate among scientists.
