Rohit Sharma’s first ODI series as full-time captain has started with two convincing wins. India have gained an unassailable 2-0 lead after winning the second match by 44 runs and will now look to complete a clean sweep. The third ODI takes place at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Friday.

Shikhar Dhawan, now out of quarantine, is expected to return for India. The opener had missed the first two games of the series after testing positive for COVID-19. In his last nine 50-over games, the 36-year-old has scored five half-centuries.

Also in focus will be Virat Kohli. Dismissed from ODI captaincy, arguably the best batsman in the team is struggling to get his 71st international century. He has recorded scores of eight and 18 in the series so far.

The second ODI saw pacer Prasidh Krishna bowling the best spell Rohit Sharma has seen. The 25-year-old, with 4/12, led India’s win and was named the player of the match. KL Rahul (49 off 48) and Suryakumar Yadav (64 off 83) were impressive with the bat.

West Indies, on the other hand, as stand-in skipper Nicholas Pooran said didn’t build partnerships. They lost wickets at regular intervals.

Kieron Pollard missed the game due to a niggle and it is not known whether he would return for the final ODI on Friday.
