England ace Jonny Bairstow performed in an emphatic manner as he scored his 11th career century against India at Edgbaston on Sunday. The 140-ball 106 knock, which was also incidentally his third in a row, came against a mighty Indian side in what could be described as a crucial inning for the English side.

Bairstow, 32, has been outstanding in sealing Test run-chases this summer in England. In the last month or so, the right-handed batter played a key role in each of England’s Test wins while chasing.

England vs Australia, 116* runs – Sydney Cricket Ground

Bairstow went on to hit 154 runs in the final test against Australia in the Ashes 2022. He went on to hit a terrific 113 in the first inninga and a 41 in the second.

England vs West Indies, 140 runs- Antigua

The eccentric English batter scored a terrific 140, his highest since an unbeaten 167 against Sri Lanka in a draw at Lord’s in June 2016. 

With the help of Bairstow’s brilliant 140 off 259 balls, England scored 311 in 100.3 overs. He was the innings’ final wicket to fall.

England vs New Zealand, 136* runs – Trent Bridge

Bairstow finished with 136 off 92 balls as England chased down New Zealand‘s 299-run target to take a 2-0 lead in the three-match series. England needed 160 runs off 38 overs in the final session. They did it in only 16 innings, scoring at an astounding rate of 10 runs per over.

Bairstow was sent back to the pavilion for 136 off 92 balls in a tricky situation, leaving Stokes (75 not out) to get England over the line. Jonny Bairstow made history by scoring the fastest England Test century in 120 years in a record run chase of 299 in 50 overs against New Zealand on the fifth day.

England vs New Zealand, 167* runs – Trent Bridge

England was in a lot of trouble when he arrived at the crease, trailing by 173 runs before slipping to 55-6, still nearly 300 runs behind.

Bairstow launched an almost unbelievable counter-attack with Jamie Overton, putting on 241 for the seventh wicket and scoring 162 off 157 balls to give England impossible first innings lead and set up a famous victory.

India vs England, 106* runs – Edgbaston

Bairstow hit his 11th century on the third day of the rescheduled Test against India at Edgbaston. He belted the Indian bowlers and put on an aggressive show. The 32-year-old shared a crucial 66-run stand with Ben Stokes and later took the scoring burden to propel England on a rain-soaked day.

The English ace has amassed 880 runs in 15 innings at an average of 67.69 and a strike rate of 75.92 in Test matches played in 2022. Bairstow, who had only six Test centuries in his first nine and a half years, has already scored five in 2022.
