On Friday, Indian Olympian and shooter Manu Bhaker was allegedly stopped from boarding an Air India flight from Delhi to Bhopal. She claimed that she was asked to pay over Rs 10,000 for  carrying weapons and ammunition that she was travelling with for the purpose of training and alleged that Air India official and security staff misbehaved with her.

The shooter was later allowed to board her flight after Union Minister Kiren Rijiju intervened in the matter.

Who is Manu Bhaker?

Indian olympian Manu Bhaker plays Air-gun shooting and represented India in International Shooting Sport Federation World Cup in 2018 and won two golds for the country, the youngest Indian to win a gold medal at that championship.

Manu also represented and won gold for India in 2018 Commonwealth Games in women’s 10 m air pistol event category.

Early career

According to Olympics Channel, Bhaker appeared on the international platform at the age of 16 for the first time and became the youngest to win a gold at world cup level. She also went on to win gold in the 10m air pistol at the Commonwealth Games on Australia’s Gold Coast, making a new record for the Commonwealth Games of 240.9 points.

Bhaker also represented India in Asian Games in 2018 and scored a 593 in the qualification round of 25m Air pistol. However, she couldn’t win a medal at that event but stood 6th in the championship.
