Chandler Jones, who plays as a linebacker for the Arizona Cardinals, tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday and has been placed on the ‘Reserve/COVID-19’ of the NFL, according to media reports citing unnamed sources.

The team management has not officially announced the positive test result of the 31-year-old player.

The positive result could possibly mean that the linebacker may sit out on the upcoming Cardinals game against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.

Jones is one of the league’s elite pass rushers and was the NFC Defensive Player of the Week after a five-sack performance in the season opener against the Tennessee Titans.

The Cardinals have exceeded the expectations and currently stand as the only undefeated team in the league and have maintained a 5-0 record so far. It is the first time since 1974 that Kliff Kingsbury’s Arizona Cardinals have made it this far in the competition without being defeated, according to reports from Associated Press.

The Cardinals reportedly took a risk three years ago by hiring the 39-year-old coach, who had a reputation for developing great quarterbacks but also lost a lot of games at Texas Tech. He now appears comfortable in the NFL and after the 5-0 start, his career record has improved to 18-18-1.

“I have always been of the belief that it is about the players,” Kingsbury said. “If you have really good players, you will be a really good coach.”

The team has already suffered a few blows in the ongoing season with injuries. The first one came when TE Maxx Williams hurt his right knee in the second quarter. Williams had emerged as a key part of the offense. Kingsbury said the team will know more about Williams’ status over the next few days, according to reports from Associated Press.

C Rodney Hudson (ribs) left in the third quarter, though backup Max Garcia filled in admirably. The Cardinals hope CBs Byron Murphy Jr. and Marco Wilson can return next week against the Browns.
