Tom Daley – Olympic gold medallist from the UK, sure does love his knitting. Give him 15 minutes of spare time and out come his magic needles. During the women’s 3m springboard final on Sunday morning at Tokyo Olympics, the gold medallist was caught knitting while watching the competition. Daley says knitting keeps him ‘sane’.
The photo went viral in no time with social media flooded with the images of the 27-year-old, wearing his Team GB kit and mask, working away on the needles and mauve wool at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre.

“There’s Tom Daley – he’s got his knitting needles out,” said BBC commentator Katherine Downes, during live coverage on Sunday morning. “What do you reckon he’s crafting there? I wonder who he’s making that purple concoction for?”
Daley, who pulled off a stunning performance in synchronised 10 m platform at Tokyo Olympics to win the gold, has often spoken about his love for knitting and how the craft has kept him sane.

“The one thing that has kept me sane throughout this whole process is my love for knitting, and crocheting and all things stitching,” he said.
Earlier, Tom Daley knitted a pouch overnight for his coveted medal and later showed off a pouch he has knitted to keep his prized possession. “This morning I made a little cozy for my medal to stop it from getting scratched,” he said with a laugh on his Instagram knitting page madewithlovebytomdaley, which has 1 lakh followers.
The little knitted pouch has the Union Jack on one side and the Japanese flag on the other to commemorate the Tokyo Olympics.
Earlier in the week, he showed off “a little cosy” which he had knitted for his gold medal “to stop it getting scratched”. The pouch is emblazoned with the Union Jack on one side and the Japanese flag on the other.
