Kings XI batsman Chris Gayle has been fined 10% of his match fee for breaching the code of conduct of the Indian Premier League during a game against Rajasthan Royals on Friday in Abu Dhabi.

The Jamaican player on Friday scored 99 runs off 63 balls but threw his bat in anger after he missed his century by just one run at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium.

“Chris Gayle, the Kings XI Punjab batsman, has been fined 10 percent of his match fee for breaching the Dream11 Indian Premier League’s (IPL) Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Rajasthan Royals at Abu Dhabi,” the IPL said in a statement.

However, the IPL did not specify why exactly Gayle was fined for but the reason was understood. The Kings XI Punjab batsman has admitted to the offence and has accepted the sanction.

The statement said. “Mr Gayle admitted to the Level 1 offence 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction… For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding.”

Gayle was cleaned by a yorker by Jofra Archer in the last over of KXIP, reacting to which he tried hitting his bat on the stadium’s ground in frustration. But the bat slipped from his hand and landed a few metres across the pitch.

Even after 99 runs by Gayle, Kings XI Punjab set a target of 185 runs for Rajasthan Royals, which was achieved by the Steve Smith-led team in 17.3 overs, a seven-wicket victory.

The Jamaican player hit eight sixes and six fours, becoming the first player to score 1000 maximums in T20 cricket.
