Manchester United, after a frustrating season in the Premier League and Champions League, has not done much to instil confidence during the transfer window. While rivals Liverpool landed new talent Darwin Nunez, Manchester City went with the meteoric player on the rise, Erling Haaland. Even Chelsea, with recently unfrozen finances, that witnessed an ownership change is on the verge of closing the deal for Raheem Sterling, while Tottenham Hotspur have already got Ivan Perisic.

Meanwhile, United, unlike these other top-flight English clubs, don’t have a shot at this year’s Champions League and need to struggle to find their cohesion and manage a top-four finish in the PL table, are yet to bring in any new players.

However, all that could change as the side looks ready to make a move on Antony Santos, the promising Ajax winger who played under Dutchman Erik ten Hag. The former Ajax coach wanted to bring some talent over from his old club, and this could be a first.

Fabrizio Romano reported on the situation saying, “Manchester United are really interested and already had contacts to explore potential deal – not the only club, but with ten Hag pushing.”

He added that the Brazilian player’s camp are urging Ajax to listen to transfer bids for Antony this summer, even though the price tag may be high.

Money, however, shouldn’t be an issue for United as per club CEO, Richard Arnold, the PL side have set aside £200 million for transfers. They’ve also let Paul Pogba – the Frenchman with flair, many hairstyles, and not much impact- join Juventus. This gives United the chance to bring in new players and Frenkie de Jong is at the top of the list.

While things might be turning around for the English side under ten Hag’s new management, United still have to get their act together and move past transfer snubs like the attempt to bring on Christian Eriksen from Brentford.

With the Old Trafford side’s performances, United is not confidence-inspiring at the time, which is why a single promising transfer might be the stroke of luck the Reds need to see more new players follow.
