New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is set to sign a new deal worth $160 million, running for four years, with the franchise, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo reported on Tuesday. The report said Jones will be making $40 million a year as salary and an additional $35 million in incentives, per the new deal.

The deal will make Jones the ninth quarterback in the NFL to earn a salary of over $40 million.

The quarterback had earlier signed a four-year contract worth $25.7 million with a $16.7 million signing bonus in 2021, in the 2019 NFL Draft. He started his rookie season as the backup to Eli Manning but took over as the starting quarterback in Week 3.

In 2022, Jones had a remarkable season, achieving a completion rate of 67.2 percent on his passes for a total of 3,205 yards, with 15 touchdowns and only five interceptions in all 16 games.

In addition to his impressive passing performance, the quarterback also exhibited great agility on the field, rushing for 708 yards and seven touchdowns on 120 attempts. He also made strides in reducing the number of fumbles during the season.

Jones was in the fourth year of his rookie contract with the Giants in 2022, and the team did not extend it to the fifth, allowing it expires in the offseason.

However, Jones’s impressive performance in 2022 prompted the Giant’s manager Joe Schoen to now sign him on a new deal. The deal is being touted as Schoen’s first big decision since taking over as the manager of the team.

The upcoming season will be a test for both Schoen and Jones, as the Giants reportedly believe that the manager’s tutelage is crucial for the quarterback’s development, and future success.
