Punjab Kings (PBKS) batsman Nicholas Pooran’s innings against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) ended on a diamond duck after a sharp run-out effected by skipper David Warner’s direct hit in match 14 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 on Wednesday. Pooran, who came in at number four, saw his innings end even before it began, as he was dismissed without facing a ball.

Pooran walked in at the start of the eighth over when the score was 39 for the loss of two wickets. He was at the non-striker’s end for the first ball of the over – by Vijay Shankar – which Chris Gayle faced. Gayle gently tapped the ball to the short cover region and looked to take a quick single.

Warner gathered the ball and released his throw with speed and accuracy, and despite having only one stump to aim at, hit the bullseye to send Pooran back to the pavilion.

Pooran continued his poor start to the season, registering his third duck, and this time, it was a platinum duck.

PBKS batted first and set up a target of 121 for SRH, and with wickets falling on regular intervals, never really got themselves going.

The top score was 22, scored by opener Mayank Agarwal and number seven batsman Shahrukh Khan. Khaleel Ahmed ended with the best bowling figures for the Sunrisers, with 3 for 21 runs in four overs.
