Shaheen Shah Afridi, Pakistan’s talisman pacer had to leave the final with an injury, as England beat Pakistan by five wickets to win the T20 World Cup 2022. He got injured in the match, trying to complete a catch of Harry Brook.
Shadab Khan bowled a flighted delivery outside of off stump. Brook went for the hit, but it went straight to long-off. Afridi ran in to complete the catch. In the end, it was a blessing in disguise for the English cricket team, as he hurt his right knee in the process and had to leave the field.
This was the turning moment of the match as Afridi had two important overs left to bowl in the death overs. It was a major psychological boost for English cricket team, as Stokes hit a four and six off Iftikar Ahmed, the bowler who replaced Stokes. These 10 runs sealed the match for England.
Afridi was just coming in the World Cup after undergoing a knee surgery earlier this year. He also missed the 2022 Asia Cup due to the same reason.
