India opener Rohit Sharma stood tall and delivered on day 1 of the second Test between India and England at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Rohit brought up his century in the second session of the match.

Rohit brought up his 100 in 130 balls. His innings was studded with two sixes and 14 hits to the fence.

The 33-year-old Sharma has scored over 2,000 runs including seven tons in 36 Tests with an average of 44.

Earlier on Saturday, Indian captain Virat Kohli won the toss on Saturday and opted to bat. India lost three wickets in the first session as they bid to level the four-match series in front of returning fans.

All-rounder Axar Patel is making his debut, while Kuldeep Yadav made it to the side after two years. India have left out spinners Washington Sundar and Shahbaz Nadeem.

Pacer Mohammed Siraj also made it to the playing XI after Jasprit Bumrah was rested to manage workload.
