Having scripted a comeback of kinds this season, the Kolkata Knight Riders will face the Chennai Super Kings in the final of IPL 2021 at the Dubai International Stadium on Friday. 

In the Qualifier 2 played on Wednesday, Eoin Morgan and company defeated the Delhi Capitals by three wickets, sealing the final berth. 

However, the 2014 champions’ journey has been a roller coaster. KKR entered the UAE-leg of IPL after securing only two wins in the seven matches they played in India. In the Middle East, the team, riding on a brilliant all-round effort, have won seven of the nine games.

Here is a look at Kolkata Knight Riders’ road to the IPL 2021 final:

Kolkata started their campaign with a 10-run win over the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Following the win, Morgan’s team lost four games in a row to Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai and Rajasthan. KKR’s win against the Punjab Kings was followed by a disappointing result versus Delhi. 

The team resumed the IPL season in the UAE by playing the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Opener Venkatesh Iyer’s form helped them win the game by nine wickets and then defeat the Mumbai Indians by seven. Their first defeat of the UAE leg came against Chennai Super Kings.

KKR then defeated Delhi Capitals before losing to Punjab Kings by five wickets. They sealed the playoffs spot by beating the Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad. 

In the eliminator, Kolkata knocked out Virat Kohli’s Bangalore.
