The 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League will begin on April 9, the BCCI announced on Sunday. The first match would be played between defending champions Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai.

In light of the COVID pandemic, the board has prepared the fixtures in a way that minimises travel. “The fixtures of the tournament have been mapped in a way that every team will travel only three times during the league stage, thus reducing commute and minimising risk,” the BCCI said in its release.

The 14th edition of the IPL will be played across six neutral venues – Chennai, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Kolkata.
