With the mega Indian Premier League auction just weeks away, spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has hinted that Delhi Capital may not retain him and Shreyas Iyer.

In a video on his YouTube video, Ashwin opened up on the team’s retention plans and hinted that he and Iyer will be released into the auction pool.

“Shreyas isn’t there I think. I am not there. So, someone else would have to come. I would have known if I were taken,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel on Monday.

The side has been putting up good performances over the last few seasons, even making it to the final of the 2020 season under Iyer’s leadership. However, Rishab Pant replaced Iyer as the skipper of the side in the 2021 season after the latter suffered an injury. Even when Iyer returned to the team for the second leg of the tournament that was played in the UAE, pant remained the skipper.

Iyer joined Delhi Capital in 2015 after he was picked for INR 2.6 crores. He was retained in the 2018 IPL auction and was announced the captain a few days later. Iyer led the side to playoffs in 2019 and to the final in 2020 where they lost to Mumbai Indians.

Rishabh Pant, Kagiso Rabada, Prithvi Shaw, Marcus Stoinis, Avesh Khan, and Axar Patel are the top contenders to be retained by the franchise. A maximum of 4 players can be chosen by the franchise.
