American football free safety John Johnson III has reached a contract to sign a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Rams, marking his return to the team.

John Johnson III joined the Cleveland Browns for the past two seasons after playing with the Los Angeles Rams for his first four seasons. The seasoned safety was nonetheless released by the Browns in March. With Jordan Fuller, Russ Yeast, Quentin Lake, and Jason Taylor II as the Rams’ young safety, Johnson is now prepared to make his return. He will add experience and versatility to the group. His arrival is expected to strengthen the Rams’ defense.

John Johnson III committed to the Cleveland Browns for a three-year deal worth $33.75 million in 2021. During his time with the squad, he had difficulty producing key game-changing plays. He made 162 tackles, 4 interceptions, 3 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, and a sack in 32 games with the Browns.

Johnson spent four seasons with the Los Angeles Rams after being selected in the third round of the 2017 draft, prior to his time with the Browns. During his time with the Rams, he started 48 games, and he was essential to the team’s 2018 Super Bowl run.

John Johnson III played football for Northwestern High School in Hyattsville, Maryland, where he was coached by Brian Pierre. Johnson demonstrated his talent as a wide receiver and safety while he was a student there. He had a strong season as a senior, compiling 50 total tackles, 13 pass deflections, six tackles for a loss, and five interceptions.

He accepted a request to participate in the Senior Bowl on January 28, 2017, and he played for the North, which fell to the South 15-16. Prior to the Senior Bowl, he had a meeting with the Indianapolis Colts and had a strong practice week. Johnson participated in the NFL combine and finished all of the necessary positional drills.
