Ahead of the first Test against England, Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant talked about the ‘ups and downs’ in his short international career and how he has learnt from his mistakes. “It’s been an amazing journey as I have seen lots ups and downs early in my career. As cricketers, you evolve, learn from your mistakes and improve yourself and comeback to the ground and perform well,” Pant told BCCI.tv on Saturday. He said that he is happy that he learnt from his mistakes and capitalised on whatever opportunites he got.

Pant had recently been infected with COVID-19. Recovered and fully fit now, he is now raring to playing his 22nd Test for India. India will play England in a five-match Test series, starting August 4. The first Test will be played at Nottingham’s Trent Bridge. This is the same venue where Pant arrived his arrival into Test cricket with a huge six in 2018.

Pant also spoke about how he is making full use of being around seniors like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the squad. He said that he is trying to learn from everyone in the leadership group to try and become a better player.

“I talk to Rohit bhai a lot — like talking about the game as what we have done in previous matches and what we could have done. Also what we should look to do and look at possible outcomes in future games. What all I can add to my game.”

“I also take technical inputs from Virat bhai. Especially playing in England, standing up to stumps or going back,” said the 23-year-old batsman from Rourkee.
