The two biggest football superstars on the planet, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have set social media ablaze by posing for a photograph together for a Louis Vuitton advertisement. The iconic rivals have been captured in the frame by noted celebrity photographer Annie Leibowitz. In the picture, the duo can be seeing playing chess, with the chessboard placed on a Louis Vuitton trunk.

This is the first time that both Messi and Ronaldo have featured each other on their social media profiles.

The picture comes right before the commencement of the FIFA World Cup 2022, which will be the fifth time that the duo will play for their respective sides in the marquee tournament. Argentina are set to kick off their campaign in a match against Saudi Arabia on November 22 while Portugal are set to face Ghana on November 24.

Messi and Ronaldo have appeared together on stage beside each other as they competed for football’s greatest honours for the larger part of their respective careers. Their first professional commitment together has already set social media abuzz. Many fans have claimed the click to be the photograph of the year. Messi and Ronaldo’s individual posts garnered more than two million likes each within an hour of being posted.

In a recent interview with British host Piers Morgan, Cristiano Ronaldo has spoken very highly of his eternal rival, and used praises like “magical” and “top” to describe the Argentina captain. Ronaldo also said that Messi is like a teammate after being together on the top of the game for 16 years.

All eyes will be on the duo as they take to the world stage for the last time in their glittering careers. If Portugal and Argentina come out as table toppers from their respective groups and keep winning the subsequent knockout matches, they can meet each other at the final on December 18.
