India cricket team captain Virat Kohli, in a shocking statement, announced that they will be stepping down as the team’s T20 captain after the ICC T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates. Fans and critics alike were surprised. Former chief selector MSK Prasad was of the opinion that bio-bubble life might have impacted his mindset.

“It is a little surprising that the decision was announced before the T20 World Cup. But then, the stress he must be carrying due to the bubble life and moving on from one bubble to another (could have also impacted). It is clearly visible and that has impacted his mindset,” Prasad told Sportstar.

“I’ve decided to step down as the T20 captain after this T20 World Cup in Dubai in October,” Kohli said in a statement.

“Understanding workload is a very important thing and considering my immense workload over the last 8-9 years playing all three formats and captaining regularly for last five to six years, I feel I need to give myself space to be fully ready to lead Indian team in Test and ODI cricket,” Kohli further added.

“I have given my everything to the Team during my time as T20 captain and I will continue to do so for the T20 captain and will continue to do so for the T20 team as a batsman moving forward,” the right-handed batsman said.

India fast bowler Irfan Khan, on the other hand, said that he hopes that Kohli finishes off in style by winning the title.

“He has been a wonderful leader and we have seen what he can do in Test cricket in terms of leadership. I hope he can finish it in style by winning the title,” Irfan was quoted as saying by Sportstar.

In the T20 World Cup, Kohli will be leading the Men in Blue in his first-ever T20 World Cup and he will be looking to end India’s 14-year wait for the title.

India will be starting their T20 World Cup against Pakistan in Dubai on October 24.
