Chennai Super Kings’ skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni has added
another record to an already long list of accomplishments. The men in yellow were
pitched against Kolkata Knight Riders. KKR won the toss and chose to bowl first
at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium. MS Dhoni took his place behind the stumps as usual
and picked up two catches. In the process, he became the wicketkeeper with the most catch dismissals in the history of the Indian Premier League

He caught KKR’s opener Venkatesh Iyer who has been in red
hot form lately. The batter nicked a wide delivery from Shardul Thakur which
was caught by MS Dhoni.

Dinesh Karthik looked dangerous and had scored 26 runs in
just 11 balls before he was caught by Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Josh Hazlewood’s
delivery.

Incidentally, the
previous record holder was Dinesh Karthik, the man who was dismissed by Dhoni
to set the new record.

Overall, MSD has the most dismissals by a wicket keeper with
155 to his name. This includes 39 stumpings. Dinesh Karthik follows him on the list
with 146 total dismissals to his name.

The former Indian captain had a long and illustrious
international career while donning the Indian cricket team’s shirt. He is also
the player with the most dismissals by a wicketkeeper in test matches. Many
consider him to be the best wicketkeeper in the history of the same and few
would argue with that.

The match between KKR and CSK was a thrilling encounter
which was settled on the last bowl. Rahul Tripathi, Nitish Rana, Ruturaj
Gaikwad and Faf du Plesis all put in good batting performances but missed out
on registering a half century. Deepak Chahar scored the winning run as CSK beat
KKR.

Many speculate that this could be Dhoni’s last season as a
player for the Chennai Super Kings since he turned 40-years-old this year. The legendary
captain will hope to lead an experienced Chennai side to an IPL title and
ending their arch rivals Mumbai Indian’s dominance.
