Tennis player Naomi Osaka announced on social media that she is expecting her first child with rapper Cordae, with whom she went public in 2019. 

To make this surprise announcement, the 25-year-old shared the picture of a sonogram on both Twitter as well as Instagram. “The past few years have been interesting to say the least, but I find that its the most challenging times in life that may be the most fun. These few months away from the sport has really given me a new love and appreciation for the game I’ve dedicated my life to,” she wrote.

She added: “I realize that life is so short and I don’t take any moments for granted, everyday is a new blessing and adventure. I know that I have so much to look forward to in the future, one thing I’m looking forward to is for my kid to watch one of my matches and tell someone, ‘that’s my mom,’ haha.”

Osaka, who has taken a short break from playing Tennis in the last few months confirmed that she will be extending her break to a year and returning to the game for the Australian Open in 2024. 

Osaka officially withdrew from the Australian Open on Sunday. “I don’t think there’s a perfectly correct path to take in life but I always felt that if you move forward with good intentions you’ll find your way eventually,” she added.

Osaka is the first Asian player to achieve the No. 1 singles ranking in the world, according to the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA). Osaka has won two Australian Open championships and two US Open crowns, making her a four-time Grand Slam singles champion. Two of her seven WTA Tour victories were at the Premier Mandatory level.
