Major League Baseball team New
York Mets has signed infielder Jonathan Villar for a $3.55 million for one year, reported The Associated Press. The agreement is subject to a
successful physical assessment. When the contract becomes official, it will give the Mets the depth they were lacking behind their starters at second base, third base, shortstop, left and centre-field. Fortunately, Villar has tried his hand at all those positions throughout his eight-year career.

Villar
will add infield depth behind new shortstop Francisco Lindor and second baseman
Jeff McNeil.

Jon Heyman, an insider at Major League Baseball (MLB) Network, shared the news on Twitter.

Villar,
who will turn 32 on May 2, split last season between Miami and Toronto, that
procured him in a trade at the August 31 trade deadline. He batted .232 with
two homers and 15 RBIs in 185 at-bats, and he earned about $3 million prorated
from an $8.2 million salary.

He has received several accolades, including the Lou Brock Awards in 2016 when he
represented the Milwaukee Brewers team, the TEX Mid-Season All-Star in 2012
when he played for the Corpus Christi Hooks, and the SAL Post-Star All-Season
in 2010 when he played for the Lakewood BlueClaws.

2016.

agreement with the Mets was first reported by the MLB Network.

New York also has a pending $1.25 million, one-year contract
with Albert Almora, who figures to be a backup outfielder.
