The Washington Commanders handed the Philadelphia Eagles their first defeat of the 2022 NFL Season by a score of 32-21, thereby also avenging a loss against the team from Week 3.

It was a surprising defeat for the home team who plays their game at Lincoln Financial Field. The Eagles were undefeated prior to this game and had an 8-0 record which was the best ever in franchise history.

Let’s look at the highlights from the MNF game.

1) Big win for the Commanders

The team from the capital city of the United States became the first team this season to defeat the Eagles after teams such as the Dallas Cowboys and Arizona Cardinals failed to do so. They also got revenge against their divisional rivals who had earlier beaten them 24-8 in Week 3.

2) DeVonta Smith creates history on his 24th birthday

It was a big night for the wide receiver, DeVonta Smith who celebrated his 24th birthday today but also ultimately suffered defeat. He arrived in style at the stadium, wearing a Fedora Hat along with a three-piece Brown suit. He ended his night by catching the ball six times for 39 yards and also caught a touchdown pass from QB Jalen Hurts for 11-yards.

3) Washington completely dominates on offense

The Commanders were dominant on the offensive side of the game, recording more passing yards and rushing yards than their opponents. They had 178 passing yards and ran with the ball for a total of 152 yards as compared to the Eagles’ 170 and 94 in both categories. The team also recovered four fumbles in the game.

4) Is this the start of the downfall for the Eagles

Prior to today’s beatdown, the Eagles looked to end the season unbeaten but today’s loss reflects that the team needs far greater consistent performances from the whole team.

Philadelphia’s 6:11 on possession in the first half was its shortest since Week 6 of 2001 against the New York Giants and the lowest by any team in the first half of a game in the last five seasons, according to ESPN Stats & Information research.  They would hope to control the ball more going into the next set of games if they are to win those and be a legitimate contender for the Lombardi Trophy.
