The Dallas Cowboys have officially announced the signing of veteran wide receiver Martavis Bryant on Tuesday, as confirmed by The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

The 31-year-old hasn’t played in the NFL in five years. In 2018, Bryant received an indefinite suspension from the NFL for repeated infractions of the organization’s drug-abuse policy. It was later revealed in December 2018 that Bryant had violated the terms of a prior reinstatement due to suspension.

Recently, the league reinstated Bryant, leading to his visit to the Cowboys. This visit has now culminated in an official NFL contract for Bryant. The specific terms of the agreement were not initially disclosed.

During his time playing collegiate football at Clemson, Martavis Bryant was selected twice for the All-ACC team. The Pittsburgh Steelers selected him in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. Bryant was an NFL player from 2014 to 2018, spending four seasons there. Due to an NFL ban, he missed the whole 2016 campaign.

Alongside All-Pro Antonio Brown, he demonstrated his ability to be a big-play threat right away as a rookie. He caught 26 passes for 549 yards in his debut season, averaging a noteworthy 21.1 yards per grab. In 10 games, he also scored eight touchdowns.

Bryant showed a lot of potential in his early NFL career, racking up 1,314 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns in his first two seasons.

Bryant played for the Steelers for two more seasons, one of which came after his ban in 2016. However, when JuJu Smith-Schuster emerged in 2017, his role became less significant. In the end, he was dealt by the Steelers to the Oakland Raiders in 2018 for a third-round draft pick.

Before serving a second suspension in December of that year, Bryant played in 12 games for the Raiders in 2018 and collected 19 catches for 266 yards.
