In his first NBA Summer League game, Scoot Henderson of the Portland Trail Blazers left the game in the third period with a right shoulder injury. He did not return.

Henderson performed excellently in his first outing, scoring 15 points in 21 minutes while dishing out 6 assists and getting 5 steals. He shot 5-13 from the field and 1-3 from 3-point range. All of Henderson’s 15 points came in the first quarter.

Henderson walked past the media area after the game without anything being clearly evident on his arm or shoulder, but he avoided speaking to reporters. Jonah Herscu, the summer league coach for the Blazers, said he was unaware of any developments about Henderson’s condition.

“I haven’t talked to the trainers yet,” he said. “They were just being cautious with it.” Herscu later said he didn’t see when the injury occurred.

“Scoot was great,” Herscu said. “When he’s in an attack mindset and getting in the paint, it’s really good. And point guard is the first line of defense defensively, so I thought his pressure on Thompson was really good, picking him up near half court, in the back court. And so I thought he played with good thrust tonight.”

Fans of the Trail Blazers will be brought back to last year’s NBA Draft when Shaedon Sharpe, their first choice, had a similar injury. Sharpe was one of the most eagerly awaited rookies at the Las Vegas event, but he suffered a shoulder injury early in his first game and did not return to action until the regular season.

Amen Thompson of Houston Rockets also fell awkwardly while attempting to block a shot under the basket in the fourth quarter, appearing to injure his left ankle. He too sustained an injury and left the game without returning.
