French footballer Christopher Nkunku celebrated his 10th-minute goal against Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday in the Champions League in the most unlikely way. 

As he ran towards the stand to receive the accolades, the 24-year-old took out a red balloon from the socks and blew it up in front of the fans. Although it looked quite bizarre, Nkunku later said that it was for his son who loves balloons.

RB Leipzig won the match comfortably with four goals to none. Andre Silva (50′), Dominik Szoboszlai (62′) and Valeriy Bondar’s own goal saw the Bundesliga team winning comfortably and bagging the second place in Group F after Real Madrid.

Christopher Nkunku is on loan to the German club from Chelsea. However, he is having a smashing season so far with 14 goals in all competitions. He has scored nine goals in Bundesliga and three in the Champions League.

Celtic, the Scottish team in Group F, were eliminated from Europe after a 5-1 trashing by Real Madrid today. Shakhtar Donetsk, on the other hand, finished in the third spot and will be playing in the Europa League. 

The Group Stages of the Champions League is now over and the 16 teams who have made it through to the next round will find out who they will face next in the Round of 16 draws. 

Group H, which also played their final matches today saw the biggest disappointment today after Benfica topped it with 14 points. PSG came second after their 2-1 win against Juventus.

Juventus were eliminated from the Champions League after a third-place finish. They will also play in the Europa League next.
