As the Indianapolis Colts travelled to face the Denver Broncos in Week 5 of the 2022 NFL season, their quarterback Matt Ryan scripted a rather unfortunate record. The 37-year-old became the most sacked player in the 2022 NFL season, as he was sacked five times for the third time this season.

The Indianapolis Colts are having a rough time in the 2022 NFL season and Ryan becoming the most-sacked player in the league will not help them turn their fortune around. The Colts won only once in their first four games of the season, losing two and drawing another. In these four games, Ryan racked up 2, 5, 5 and 3 sacks respectively, a total of 15 sacks.

However, against the Denver Broncos on Thursday Night Football on October 6, the veteran quarterback was sacked 5 times for the third time this season, which took his tally to 20 sacks, the most by any player in the league.

He overtook Washington Commanders quarterback Carson Wentz (17) to become the most sacked player in the league. The likes of Joe Burrow (Cincinnati Bengals), Matthew Stafford (Los Angeles Rams) and Justin Fields (Chicago Bears) are following Ryan and Wentz in the third place, all of whom were sacked 16 times in the league in the 2022 season.

Ryan has made 102 successful passes out of 154 attempts in the ongoing season so far for 1,125 yards, along with 5 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. He also recorded 12 successful passes out of 19 attempts for 140 yards and 1 interception against the Denver Broncos on October 6.

The Indianapolis Colts are languishing in third place in the AFC South standings, with only the Houston Texans below them. The Jacksonville Jaguars lead the table in AFC South with two wins and as many losses, followed by the Tennessee Titans in the second spot.
