The play happened in the early minutes of the second quarter when QB Jimmy Garoppolo first passed to McCaffrey on the right side of the field. After catching the football, instead of running with it which he is exceptional in, McCaffrey threw a deep pass to the WR Aiyuk who was already ahead of the defenders that were positioned to mark him, for 34 yards.

McCaffrey had earlier passed for a TD in his second year in the league in 2018 when he passed to the team’s tight end Chris Manhertz in a 9-12 loss to the New Orleans Saints in Week 15 of that season.
