The San Francisco 49ers did not have a dream start to their 2022 National Football League (NFL) season. The franchise suffered a defeat in their Weak 1 game against the Chicago Bears with a 19-10 scoreline and also saw their starting running back, Elijah Mitchell, being placed on the injury reserve. Mitchell has not been able to play a single season in his career without being out for a certain period of time due to injuries.

Here are some possible replacements for the 24-year-old:

Jeff Wilson

Jeff Wilson might end up as the replacement for Mitchell since he was the one who played most of the snaps for the 49ers after the latter got injured. Wilson had a solid 2020 season when he ran for 600 yards and also managed to complete seven touchdowns.

Tyrion Davis Price

21-year-old Price is a 49ers recruit who was selected by the franchise in the 2022 NFL Draft’s third round. Unlike Wilson, Price did not play in the match against Chicago. However, Davis’ qualities as a power back, his elusive nature while running, and his acceleration can give the LSU alumni an edge.

Marlon Mack

The 49ers have signed Marlon Mack to their practice squad, but now the 26-year-old might have an opportunity to ply his trade in the starting lineup with Mitchell sidelined due to injury. Mack has also suffered a number of injuries in his career, including a concussion, a Grade 2 hamstring strain, as well as a Grade 3 torn Achilles.

Jordan Mason

Another potential replacement for the 49ers can be their rookie running back, Jordan Mason, who played college football for Georgia Tech. Mason was signed to the 49ers as a free agent who remained undrafted. This will be the time for Mason to prove his worth to coach Kyle Shanahan if given an opportunity.
