Simone Biles, the renowned American gymnast, secured a silver medal in the vault competition at the World Gymnastics Ghampionship, despite experiencing a fall during her routine. Biles is known for her exceptional skills and difficulty level in gymnastics, which sets her apart from her competitors.

During her vault performance, Biles over-rotated her Yurchenko double pike, a skill now named after her as she is the first woman to successfully execute it internationally. Fortunately, she fell safely onto her back on the mat. However, she cleanly landed her second vault, a twisting Cheng, with a slight hop to the side. Her overall performance earned her an average score of 14.549 points for her two vaults in the competition, which took place in Antwerp, Belgium.

Ultimately, Brazilian gymnast Rebeca Andrade outperformed Biles with an average score of 14.75 for her two clean vaults. Although Andrade had a lower difficulty level compared to Biles, she surpassed the American gymnast in execution.

Yeo Seo-Jeong of South Korea secured the bronze medal with two clean vaults and a difficulty level that was considerably lower than Biles’.

Despite the fall, Biles was able to secure a medal due to the higher start values of her vaults, which were the most challenging in the nine-woman final. However, she received a half-point deduction on the Yurchenko double pike because her coach was on the mat assisting her for safety reasons, ultimately costing her the gold medal.
