David Warner’s unceremonious ouster from Sunrisers Hyderabad has led to widespread speculation within the cricketing world, with cricketer-turned-commentator Sanjay Manjrekar suggesting the development may have been spurred by “non-cricketing reasons.”

Sunrisers head coach and former Australian all-rounder Tom Moody’s replacement by former England coach Trevor Bayliss may also have contributed to Warner’s axing from the side, reports Fox Sports.

Moody is reportedly eyeing the Indian coaching job, which is set to be vacated by Shastri after the T20 World Cup.

Warner has been approached by a “number of other IPL franchises, who have been shocked by the run-scoring machine being sidelined.”

Before Sunsrisers match against the Rajasthan Royals during the UAE leg of the IPL, David Warner was left behind in the team hotel. Coach Trevor Bayliss had said the franchise wanted to give a number of young players that haven’t been to the ground an opportunity to accompany the team to the ground.

“We can’t make the final so have made a decision that we want the young players to experience not just the matches but time at the ground, around the set-up, and for this match we made the decision,” he had said.

The former India batsman recently said that Warner’s numbers over the last few years spoke for themselves and the Australian opener was “the best (Indian Premier League) IPL batter we have ever seen with regards to longevity.”

Warner was removed as SRH captain in the middle of the 14th IPL season and was later axed from the playing XI as well.

Although Warner managed just 195 runs in eight matches this season, he is the 5th highest run-scorer in IPL history with 5449 runs at an average of 41.59 and a strike-rate of 139.96.

His form with the Sunrisers has been even more impressive with 4,014 runs at an average of 49.56 and a strike-rate of 142.59. Warner also led the Sunrisers to their 2016 IPL title.

Manjrekar told ESPNCricinfo that the Aussie batsman’s recent poor run had “not been going on for so long that Warner gets dropped on batting form. “So, it has to be a non-cricketing reason and we have no idea what that is. That is the other thing I don’t understand, why everything is so hush-hush, but there is something definitely going wrong there,” he added.

Former New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori described the omission as “staggering,” according to Fox Sports.
