Suryakumar Yadav reached his second consecutive half century, hitting a six and four off South Africa’s best bowler of the match, Lungi Ngidi. He pulled Ngidi in the first bowl for a six, as the South African bowled a short of the length bowl. He then reached his fifty off thirty balls, driving a full length ball past the mid-on fielder.

This was also Yadav’s second consecutive fifty against the Proteas. He now has three half centuries against them in four T20Is.

Earlier in the game, the South African pace attack wreaked havoc in the Indian batting lineup after Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul hit sixes to open India’s account. The partnership, however, was short-lived as Lungi Ngidi sent Rohit Sharma to the pavilion in the fifth over. Sharma made an attempt to pull but missed the extra bounce on the Perth surface. In the same over, Rahul also got out after edging the delivery to Aiden Makram.

Virat Kohli was then dismissed for the first time by Lungi Ngidi during this T20 World Cup. To pull a short ball, Kohli moved over the crease, but he received a top edge. The pacer subsequently picked up his third wicket of the game when Kagiso Rabada made an outstanding running catch at fine leg.

Karthik and Ashwin lingered for a while, but it was Suryakumar Yadav’s consecutive half century that gave India a decent total to defend. The best bowler for the South African was Ngidi, who destroyed the top order with a 4-fer while the other fast bowlers supported him ably, especially Parnell, who also had a 3-fer,.
