Suryakumar Yadav came out all guns blazing as he hit a 18-ball half century. This was the second fasted fifty for an Indian batter after Yuvraj Singh‘s 12 ball fifty in 2007.

With this blitz, Suryakumar Yadav also scripted another record to his name. He became the fastest batter to 1000 T20I runs by balls faced. He reached the ball after facing just 573 balls, hitting with a strike rate of 174.

SKY has hit all around the ground. He welcomed South Africa’s best bowler in the game, Keshav Maharaj with a four. He then hit Andre Nortje for two sixes and as many fours in the 22-run 15th over. He followed it up with a six and a four in the next over off Lungi Ngidi.

His ferocious hitting continued in the following overs. He reached his 18-ball fifty, smacking a six off Wayne Parnell. Virat Kohli also joined the party as he hit a six and two fours in the same over, to give India a 23 run over, their third 20+ run over in the game.

Their 102-run partnership for the third wicket was the highest run-rate for century partnership by Indian pairs in T20Is. Just when the Mumbai Indians batter looked unstoppable, he was sent back to the pavilion due to an unfortunate run out. Suryakumar had run off for a single to go back on strike when Kohli played a cut to Bavuma at point. However, Kohli was also looking the ball. Yadav didn’t even bother trying to run back, and South  Africa got a crucial breakthrough. However, Dinesh Kartik’s seven ball 17, was enough for India to reach 237, their highest total against South Africa.
