Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav scored 40-ball 68 against South Africa in Sunday’s match in Perth. He was the highest scorer for the Men in Blue as he steered India to 133 in 20 overs after the big names in the top order collapsed in the face of a brilliant bowling performance by the Proteas.

2022 has been a brilliant year for the 32-year-old Mumbai-born batsman. He has played 26 T20I innings so far in 2022, scoring a whopping 1003 runs. It includes nine fifties and a century on English soil. Yadav has managed to do it all with a strike rate of over 183.

He is currently the most lethal T20 batter out there and is known for his 360-degree hitting capability. The only player who could do it before Yadav was former South Africa captain AB de Villiers.

India lost the match in the end to South Africa by five wickets. But thanks to Suryakumar’s innings, they had a defendable total on the board when South Africa came out for the chase. In fact, India were on top at one point when South Africa lost two wickets with just three runs on the board. In spite of the low total, the match seemed winnable for India then.

The partnership between Aiden Markram (52 from 41 balls) and David Miller (59 from 46 balls) sealed the win for the Proteas.

However, India had chances to dismiss both of these batters, but they failed miserably in it. Rohit Sharma missed a great chance to run out Markram, while Virat Kohli dropped an easy David Miller catch. Once Miller’s catch was dropped, there was no stopping for the Proteas.

They easily chased down India’s 133 with three balls to spare. Pacer Lungi Ngidi became the player of the match with four wickets in four overs, conceding only 29 runs on the way.
