New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips caught Marcus Stoinis in the opening Super 12 game against Australia, and it is already being touted as the catch of the competition.

Australia was struggling to keep up with New Zealand’s 201-run goal and was at 50/3 when the Kiwi took a superb catch to remove the fourth Australian wicket.

Stoinis attempted to go inside out over cover with a drive in the tenth over of the second inning. While being far from the fielder and sweeper, where the ball would have and should have securely landed, he chipped it into the air.

To make sure the ball didn’t fly out as he dropped to the ground, Phillips, who had come over from a distance, dove for it, went two-handed and latched onto it. Phillips has so established himself as an early candidate for the tournament’s catch while performing at his acrobatic best. In this ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 Super 12 Group 1 match, Australia won the toss and decided to bowl first. New Zealand defeated Australia by 89 runs.
