Australia was struggling to keep up with New Zealand’s 201-run goal and was at 50/3 when the Kiwi took a superb catch to remove the fourth Australian wicket.
Here’s how social media reacted to this spectacle:
Former New Zealand batting all-rounder, Grant Elliot tweeted – “Add that catch to dismiss Stoinis to this montage. Seriously incredible catch, Glenn Philips.”
Avinash Aryan wrote- “Glenn Philips. Paisa Wasool catch.”
Johns wrote- “What a catch by Glenn Philips, he is the Superman of New Zealand.”
Ashish Pareek wrote- “What an incredible catch by Glenn Philips, Stoinis departs.”
One user wrote – “Hope Emirates got a better Advertisement for their ‘Fly Better’ campaign! Mind blowing catch by glenn Philips.”
“Customary Glenn Philips brilliance in the field. This will be an outstanding catch for any other fielder, but for Philips, it’s routine stuff,” wrote another.
Stoinis attempted to go inside out over cover with a drive in the tenth over of the second inning. While being far from the fielder and sweeper, where the ball would have and should have securely landed, he chipped it into the air.
To make sure the ball didn’t fly out as he dropped to the ground, Phillips, who had come over from a distance, dove for it, went two-handed and latched onto it. Phillips has so established himself as an early candidate for the tournament’s catch while performing at his acrobatic best. In this ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 Super 12 Group 1 match, Australia won the toss and decided to bowl first. New Zealand defeated Australia by 89 runs.
