Touted as the dark horse in the ongoing T20 World Cup, Pakistan got off to a disappointing start after losing two consecutive matches. Although the first loss against India was well-fought, the second one against Zimbabwe was unexpected. They are currently sixth in the group with just one win from three matches.

South Africa, who have also managed only one win from two matches so far, are second in the table. If they lose to India today, they will be equal with Pakistan and the latter will have a good chance of qualifying for the semi-finals. As a result, Pakistani fans are rooting for their arch-rivals to win against the Proteas today.

The reaction was led by former Pakistan pacer Sohaib Akhtar who posted a video on Twitter after India lost four wickets for less than 50 runs. He said that India needs to win for Pakistan but it looked from India’s batting performance that Indian batters have plans to kill Pakistan.

Another fan said that Pakistani batter Mohammad Rizwan has gone into a coma after watching India’s batting performance vs the Proteas. The user posted a meme of Rizwan in the hospital lying on the bed as if in a coma.

Whenever India plays, Lagaan memes always feature in social media commentary related to the match. Remembering the epic film, one fan posted a picture of Bhuvan as Pakistan telling Kachara as India: “humara izzat ab tohre haath me hain Kachra.”

Another fan tweeted a video of a person watching the match with his TV covered with a curtain. He cannot watch the match as the suspense is too much for him to take. The person’s attitude was equated with Pakistani fans right now who know that if India fails to win today, their chances of qualifying will fall to zero.

Not only India but all Pakistani eyes will be glued to India’s performance today. However, it seems unlikely that India will be able to get a win today and South Africa races to the total set by India thanks to excellent knocks by David Miller and Aiden Markram.
