Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans suffered a hamstring injury during Sunday’s showdown against the New Orleans Saints. It is unclear exactly when he suffered the injury.

While his team had initially announced that his return to the game was questionable, it has not been confirmed that he will not be returning. Fox Sports reported that Evans did attempt to make his way out of the locker room and into the field but he ended up going back to the locker room.

Evans had posted three receptions for a team-leading 40 yards during today’s game as well as 17 catches for 297 yards and three scores during the Bucs’ first three contests. With Evans no longer able to continue play, Chris Godwin will become Tampa Bay’s go-to wide receiver. Meanwhile, a lot of responsibility will also be expected to be shouldered by Deven Thompkins and third-round rookie Trey Palmer with Evans out.

Evans is one of the more consistent receivers in NFL history, having topped 1,000 receiving yards. He’s missed just one game due to injury since 2020 and is typically reliable.

Evans played college football at Texas A&M, where he earned consensus first-team All-American honors after recording a school record of 1,394 receiving yards on 69 receptions, and was drafted by the Buccaneers in the first round with the seventh overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.

Evans has been selected to the Pro Bowl four times and was a Second-team All-Pro in 2016. Evans holds nearly every major Buccaneers franchise receiving record; career receptions, yards, and touchdowns. Evans is also the only player in NFL history to start his career with nine consecutive seasons with at least 1,000 receiving yards. He won a Super Bowl championship in Super Bowl LV over the Kansas City Chiefs.
