Indian skipper Virat Kohli on Tuesday completed 12 years since his debut in
international cricket.

Kohli took
to Twitter to commemorate the occasion, sharing a collage of various moments of
his career with the caption, “Time flies. Forever grateful.”

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also
congratulated the Delhi-born batsman, sharing a post with the caption, “On this
day in 2008, a young @imVkohli donned the #TeamIndia jersey for the first time
and as they say the rest is history. Here’s congratulating #TeamIndia Captain on
#12YearsOfVirat.”

Kohli made
waves in the cricketing world by captaining India’s under-19 team to World Cup
glory in 2008, soon after which he broke into the senior team.

Touted as the next big thing in Indian cricket, Kohli made
his International debut on August 18 in 2008 against Sri Lanka in Dambulla, although
he could not make an instant impact, scoring only 13 runs in 22 deliveries.

He has since then dominated the world batting rankings in all formats of the game, scoring
43 ODI centuries along with 27 in Tests. Kohli has amassed a mind-boggling 11,867 runs in 248 ODI appearances with an
average of 59.33.

Considered
one of the best batsmen of his generation and one of the all-time greats, Kohli
has played 86 Test matches, scoring 7,240 runs at an average of 53.62.

Kohli has
also smashed 2,794 runs in 82 T20 Internationals with a stunning average of
50.80. He is also the leading run scorer in the IPL with 5,412 runs in 177
appearances.
