Team USA, won gold
and set a world record
in the men’s 4×100 meter medley at the Tokyo Olympics on
Sunday.

The Americans
finished the race in 3:26.78, 0.73 seconds ahead of second-place Great Britain. Italy
got bronze finishing 3:29.17. The Americans have won this race in all 15
Olympics they’ve raced it.

The victory at the 4×100 meter medley gives Caeleb Dressel, who
swam butterfly in the race, his fifth gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics.

Team USA has won three of the five swimming events held on Sunday
morning. Australia has won the other two.

This victory continued USA’s dominance in the 4x100m medley
event. The US has never lost the men’s medley relay at the Olympics. The only
time the team did not win gold was when the team boycotted the Moscow Games in
1980.

Team head coach Dave Durden told USA Today, “We had a good
spirited discussion amongst the men’s coaching staff yesterday to make sure we
were putting the right four out there.”

Ryan Murphy, who opened the relay for Team USA, said, “We spent
14 months in isolation and doing the right thing and we trusted in each other.”
“It’s just really special,” Murphy added.

With this, the United States finishes the swimming competition
with more medals than any other country. USA has won 30 medals overall,
including 11 golds. Australia is second with 20 overall medals and 11 golds.

Four years ago, at the Rio Olympics 2016, the USA team won 33
medals, including 16 golds.
