San Francisco 49ers’ Jimmy Garoppolo took the field against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2 of the 2022 NFL Season. This was after regular QB Trey Lance was carted off the field following an ankle injury he suffered during the first quarter of the game.

Before the start of the season, Garoppolo agreed to extend his stay with the 49ers for a one-year time period and agreed to a $6.5 million fully guaranteed contract with the team.

Who is Jimmy Garoppolo?

Jimmy G, as he is commonly referred to, is the backup QB for the San Francisco 49ers in the National Football League. He is a two-time Super Bowl Winner during his time with the New England Patriots who drafted the player in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He won the Super Bowl in 2014 and 2017 before being traded to the 49ers in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2018 draft. 

Garoppolo was born on November 2, 1991 in Arlington, Texas and attended Rolling Meadows High School in Illinois State. 

College Career: –

Garoppolo played college football for the Eastern Illinois Panthers from 2010 to 2013, throwing 118 touchdowns and 13156 passing yards.

NFL Career: –

The New England Patriots selected him 62nd overall in the 2014 NFL Draft, and he signed a four-year contract worth $3,483,898 with an $853,744 signing bonus.

He made his regular-season debut in the fourth quarter of the Patriots’ 41-14 road loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 4 of the 2014 season. On his first drive, he led the Patriots on a scoring drive that resulted in his first career passing touchdown, a 13-yard pass to tight end Rob Gronkowski. He finished the game with a passer rating of 147.9 after completing six of seven passes for 70 yards and one touchdown. He did not play in Super Bowl XLIX, in which the Patriots defeated the Seahawks.

After being traded from the Patriots to the 49ers in 2017, he made his debut in Week 12 against the Seattle Seahawks in the final minute after starter C. J. Beathard was injured, as the team lost 24-13 in the game.
