The Raiders are poised to part ways with one of their veteran defensive backs, according to information from Vic Tafur of TheAthletic.com. It is anticipated that Las Vegas will release Marcus Peters before the team resumes play after its Week 13 bye.

During Sunday’s loss to the Chiefs, Peters found himself benched in the second quarter. Interim head coach Antonio Pierce, when asked about the decision post-game, simply referred to it as a coach’s call.

Tafur highlighted that there was consideration of releasing Peters earlier in the season, but now the team has definitively chosen to move in that direction.

Having started in the first 12 games for Las Vegas, Peters made notable contributions, including five passes defensed and a pick six in the October 30 matchup against Detroit.

Over his career spanning 115 games, Peters has amassed 33 interceptions, with seven of them resulting in touchdowns.

Who is Marcus Peters?

Marcus Peters is an accomplished professional football player known for his exceptional skills as a cornerback in the National Football League (NFL). Born on January 9, 1993, in Oakland, California, Peters attended the University of Washington, where he played college football for the Washington Huskies.

Peters declared for the NFL draft in 2015 and was selected in the first round by the Kansas City Chiefs as the 18th overall pick. His rookie season was nothing short of remarkable, as he quickly established himself as one of the league’s top defensive talents. Peters showcased his ability to read quarterbacks, make crucial interceptions, and break up passes, earning him the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year honors.

During his time with the Chiefs, Peters continued to impress with his playmaking abilities. He earned Pro Bowl selections in 2015 and 2016, solidifying his reputation as one of the premier cornerbacks in the league. However, in 2018, the Chiefs traded Peters to the Los Angeles Rams.

With the Rams, Peters maintained his high level of performance, contributing to the team’s success. He played a key role in the Rams’ journey to Super Bowl LIII in the 2018 season, although they ultimately fell short against the New England Patriots.

In 2019, Peters was traded to the Baltimore Ravens, where he continued to excel. His aggressive style and knack for creating turnovers added a dynamic element to the Ravens’ defense. Peters played a vital role in Baltimore’s success in the 2019 and 2020 seasons, earning Pro Bowl honors once again.
