Mickey Williams was taken into custody this week in San Diego on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, Fox News reported citing officials. The outlet accessed jail records of the 18-year-old high school athlete, and revealed that he was arrested on Thursday near the 2600 block of Bratton Valley Road in the Jamul area.

The San Diego Sheriff’s Department confirmed to the outlet that Williams was released on a bond.

Who is Mickey Williams? 

Mikey Williams is a highly touted basketball prospect in the class of 2023. He plays for San Ysidro High School in San Diego, California. Williams is a 6-foot-3-inch, 175-pound guard.

He is ranked as one of the top players in his class and has committed to play college basketball at the University of Memphis. Williams has been on the varsity basketball team since his freshman year and is one of the top players in the country.

He has received national attention for his impressive skills on the court and his massive social media following. Williams has amassed millions of followers on platforms such as Instagram and TikTok, where he shares highlights from his games and gives fans a glimpse into his life off the court. At the moment, he has a little less that 4 million followers.

In addition to his success on the court, Williams has also made history off the court. In 2021, he signed a multiyear endorsement deal with Puma, becoming the first American high school basketball player to sign a sneaker contract with a global footwear company.

Speaking alongside former pro footballers Brandon Marshall and LeSean McCoy in a podcast, he said: “I know that it could all end tomorrow though… So that’s why I feel humble with it, you know, I be talking to many homeboys a lot and I’m like… I’m the first to do this, I’m the first to do that, right? And it’s like, God don’t put everybody in this position,”
