Having lost
their second group stage match 1-0 to Brazil, Switzerland took on Serbia in a
critical encounter where the two sides grappled hard for the remaining one
ticket to the 2022 FIFA World Cup knockouts. Trailing 1-2, Switzerland depended on Breel Embolo,
who also scored against Cameroon and midfielder Remo Freuler to win 3-2 and fetch three valuable points and break into the knockouts.

The Swiss
will face Group H toppers and fellow Europeans Portugal in the round of 16 in
the only all-European clash in the first stage of knockouts alongside France Vs
Poland. The Swiss will look forward to improving on their 2018 World Cup record
and will try going one step further into the quarterfinals this time around.

Who is Remo
Freuler?

Remo
Freuler is a 30-year-old Swiss midfielder, who also plays for Premier League
side Nottingham Forest. He was born in Ennenda, Switzerland to Marcel
Freuler and Sabine Freuler. He began his career with FC Winterthur in 2005.

Freuler was
called into the Swiss side for the 2018 World Cup qualifier event. He was then
also named in the Swiss team that played in the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Switzerland qualified for the knockouts before bowing out of the tournament
after a 1-0 defeat to Scandinavian side Sweden. Freuler also played in the UEFA
Euro cup in 2020 where the swiss lost a penalty shootout to Spain in the quarter-finals.

At the club
level, Freuler moved on to Luzern before playing for the Italian team Atalanta in Serie A. After a reasonably satisfactory stint extending to roughly six and
a half years, he left the club for Nottingham Forrest of the English premier
league (EPL) for a deal of 1.5 million pounds.

Freuler
developed a reputation as an efficient all-round midfielder in Serie A and has
continued in a similar vein in the Premier League too.
