Robert Woods is an American football wide receiver and currently plies his trade in the NFL with the Tennessee Titans. After spending most of his career with the Buffalo Bills and then the Los Angeles Rams, he was traded on March 19, 2022, to the Tennessee Titans for a 2023 6th-round pick.

Who is Robert Woods?

Robert Woods was born on April 10th, 1992 in Gardena, California. He did his high schooling at Junipero Serra High School, in Gardena, and after a flourishing high school career, was ranked as the no. 1 wide receiver prospect in the country and no. 11 overall by Scout.com, and was the no. 1 ranked athlete as listed by rivals.com. He chose to accept a scholarship from the University of Southern California to play football for the USC Trojans between 2010 and 2012.

He was at the races right from the off for the Trojans, enjoying an industrious freshman campaign where he finished with 65 receptions for 792 yards and 6 receiving touchdowns. He also became a prolific kickoff returner, finishing first in the Pac-10 with 38 kickoff returns, covering 971 yards. He continued his development in his sophomore year, finishing with 111 receptions for 1,292 receiving yards and 15 receiving touchdowns. His performances saw him in the reckoning for the 2011 Biletnikoff Award as well as the Maxwell Award- he was one of the 3 finalists for both. He was also named a Consensus All-American. 

At the end of his Junior year, Woods declared for the 2013 NFL Draft, and the Buffalo Bills drafted him in the 2nd round as the 41st overall pick. He signed a 4-year rookie contract worth $4.86 million.

He was named one of the three starting wide receivers for the Bills before his debut season and made his first career start in the 2013 season opener against the New England Patriots catching his first touchdown in a closely fought 23-21 loss. He eventually finished his rookie campaign with 40 receptions for 587 yards and three touchdowns in 14 games.

He continued as a starter, predominantly, for the Buffalo Bills throughout the time he was contracted with them, till 2016, but never reached the playoff stage in his career with the Bills. At the end of his contract, he signed a 5 year deal with the Los Angeles Rams that was worth $34 million, of which $15 million was guaranteed.

He was named as the no. 1 wide receiver at the Rams and in Week 8, Woods marked the first multi-touchdown game of his career, catching 2 touchdowns in a thumping 51-17 victory over the New York Giants. The following week, he caught a 94-yard touchdown, which set a franchise record for the longest touchdown reception since 1964. He finished his debut season with the Rams having made 56 receptions for a career-high 781 yards and five touchdowns in 12 games. He made his playoff debuts in the 2017-18 postseason as the Rams lost to the Atlanta Falcons in the Wild Card Round.

The following season saw the Rams return to the playoffs and this time the Rams reached all the way up to the Super Bowl. In his first Super Bowl appearance, Woods made 5 catches for 70 yards and a 5-yard rush, but the Rams lost out 13-3 to the Patriots in the lowest-scoring Super Bowl in history.

Woods suffered a season-ending anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear during practice on November 12, 2021, and the Rams went on to win the Super Bowl that year in the absence of Woods. 

On March 19th, 2022, Woods was traded to the Tennessee Titans.
