Neal Skupski of the United Kingdom won the Wimbledon men’s doubles championship for the first time with Dutch partner Wesley Koolhof.

The top seeds Skupski and Koolhof won the championship match on Centre Court on Saturday by defeating the Spanish-Argentine duo Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos 6-4 6-4.

Who is Wesley Koolhof?

Wesley Koolhof is a Dutch professional tennis player who specializes in doubles. He is the late Jurrie Koolhof’s son, a former Dutch international footballer. He reached the rank of world No. 1 in doubles under the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), which he first achieved in November 2022. In August 2013, Koolhof also achieved a singles career-high rating of No. 462 in the world.

Together with Ena Shibahara, Koolhof won his first Grand Slam championship in mixed doubles at the 2022 French Open. He also advanced to the US Open men’s doubles finals in 2020 and 2022 with partners Nikola Mekti and Neal Skupski, respectively.

His 15 career ATP Tour doubles victories include the ATP Finals title in 2020 with Mekti and three ATP Masters 1000 wins with Skupski, including the Madrid Open, Canadian Open, and Paris Masters. In November 2022, Koolhof became the first Dutchman to win the doubles world No. 1 ranking, passing Tom Okker, Paul Haarhuis, and Jacco Eltingh. He shared the title with Skupski at the end of the year.

Together with Jean-Julien Rojer and Matwé Middelkoop, Koolhof has represented the Netherlands’ Davis Cup team since 2019. In 2022, Koolhof helped the team in making a comeback, as they advanced to the quarterfinals for the first time in 17 years.
