Jian Kayo was discovered dead in his home, according to reports. The rising Brazilian talent from Parana served as Ituano FC’s goalkeeper.

On Saturday night, he was discovered unconscious in his house. The football team released a statement confirming his passing: “With great sadness and dismay, Ituano FC communicates the death of the athlete Jian Kayo Gomes Soares. The body was found lifeless, at his residence, on the night of Saturday the 18th. Goalkeeper Jian Kayo, born in Parana, was 21 years old.”

The statement continued, “We deeply regret this great loss, directing our prayers to him, his family, and his friends. Ituano FC is providing all the necessary support and attention to the family, at this time of deep pain. As soon as possible, after approval by the authorities and the family, we will disclose additional information.”

Who is Jian Kayo?

Jian Kayo, a goalkeeper, was 21 years old and a Paraná native. He was once a member of the Sao Paolo youth system.

He moved to Ituano in 2021 to play for the Under-20 team, and that year he started in the Paulista Championship, the Sao Paulo Cup, and the Paulistao.  He advanced to the professional team for the 2023 campaign since he showed skills and a lot of potential.

Kayo’s team also represents Arsenal player Gabriel Martinelli’s old team, which is Brazil’s Serie B. No information regarding the nature of the death has been provided yet. Kayo’s team won 2-0 against Santo Andre in an emotional encounter on Sunday.

The youth system of Sao Paolo also issued a statement, which read, “With great sorrow and dismay, Sao Paulo Football Club regrets the death of goalkeeper Jian Kayo, who passed through the #MadeInCotia base and was at Ituano. Our condolences and solidarity to the family, friends and @ituanofc, wishing you all find strength in this time of pain.”
