The Cleveland Browns introduced their alternate uniform for the next season on Tuesday, which consists of a white helmet, jersey, and pants. The most noticeable uniform change is the white helmet because the Browns have been sporting an orange helmet for more than 70 years.

For three games this season, the Cleveland Browns will forgo their iconic orange helmets without a logo.
The Browns will don white helmets for the first time since 1951 as a salute to their illustrious past.

The Browns took to Twitter and wrote, “just gonna leave this here…” and attached a pair of screenshots to the post. The first photo was a Google search asking, “when did the [Browns] wear white?” The next search asked, “where were the [Bengals] formed?” A part of the search result saying the team “joined the American Football League (AFL) as an expansion team in 1968,” was highlighted.

“We’re super fired up and really excited to have this opportunity to wear an alternate helmet,” said executive vice president JW Johnson. “We decided to go with the white helmet for a couple of reasons — it harkens back to our past, and a lot of our greatest players wore white helmets. We also heard from our fans that it was the direction they wanted.”

Cleveland is going to wear the vintage all-white ensemble in Week 2’s game at Pittsburgh, Week 6’s home game against San Francisco, and Week 17’s regular-season home finale against the New York Jets.

Before transitioning to the orange shell for the 1952 season, the Browns used plain white helmets for their first six seasons in the NFL after joining the All-America Football Conference in 1950.

The NFL posted pictures of the orange and white stripe-adorned helmets and white jerseys, stating, “The [Browns’] new white alternate helmets look so clean.” The orange outline surrounds the brown jersey numerals. The sleeves of the jersey also include stripes in brown and orange.

The NFL started allowing clubs to wear an alternate helmet last year. Browns supporters have long argued over Cleveland’s orange helmet, which is the only one in the NFL without a logo.
