Yuzvendra Chahal scripted history at the Lord’s on Thursday in the second ODI match against England as he became the first-ever Indian to register a four-wicket haul at the iconic stadium.

Chahal, who has been nothing less than impressive in the ongoing year, put yet another feather on his cap on July 14 as he dismissed Jonny Bairstow (38 off 38), Joe Root (11 off 21), Ben Stokes (21 off 23) and Moeen Ali (47 off 64) for a total of 47 runs. He also recorded an economy rate of 4.70, one of the most impressive figures for all Indian bowlers against England on the day.

The 31-year-old’s record of taking four wickets puts the achievements of several Indian greats in shadows. Before him, eight Indian bowlers registered three-wicket hauls at the Lord’s, failing to reach the four-wicket threshold. Mohinder Amarnath, Madan Lal, Ashish Nehra, Harbhajan Singh, Yuvraj Singh, RP Singh, Zaheer Khan and Kuldeep Yadav — all of them have registered three-wicket hauls at the iconic English stadium, however, Chahal’s performance on Thursday has overtaken them all.

This is not the first time that Chahal has claimed four wickets in an ODI match. He has previously taken four wickets in a single ODI match three times, while registering five and six wicket hauls once each in his career till now. However, Thursday’s performance remains as his best figures against England in One Day Internationals.

Chahal’s memorable performance came in the second match of India’s three-match ODI series against England. The Men in Blue have already won the first match, and will hope to replicate their success in the second one to finish England’s chances to claim the series.

India’s bowling contingent have performed overly well against England in their most recent tour. In the previous ODI match against England, it was Jasprit Bumrah, who turned hero by claiming six wickets off 19 runs, followed by regaining the top spot in ICC’s ODI rankings for bowlers.
