Several websites and apps, including Zomato, Paytm, Disney+ Hotstar and Sony LIV, faced major outage due to issues with internet infrastructure company Akamai Technologies. Akamai, internet infrastructure company, tweeted, “Akamai is experiencing a service disruption. We are actively investigating the issue and will provide an update in 30 minutes.”

It further tweeted, “We have implemented a fix for this issue, and based on current observations, the service is resuming normal operations. We will continue to monitor to ensure that the impact has been fully mitigated.”

Other websites that were affected by the outage included Olx and gaming services in the US such as PlayStation Network (PSN) and Steam and Fortnite.

India-based digital payment company, Paytm, tweeted, “Update: Some Paytm services are affected due to global outage at Akamai. We are actively working towards a resolution.”

The outage lasted over an hour and websites have started going back online.

Updating the users about the outage, Akamai, after the disruption, tweeted, “We are continuing to monitor the situation and can confirm this was not a result of a cyberattack on the Akamai platform.”

The outage came just weeks after Akamai reported a major disruption in service that hit bank and airline websites on both sides of the Pacific.

Earlier in June, multiple outages hit social media, government and news websites across the globe. US and UK government websites were also affected by the outage.

The June outage was caused due to glitches in the content delivery network of US cloud computing service provider Fastly. The San Francisco-based firm had said “We identified a service configuration that triggered disruptions across our POPs globally and have disabled that configuration.”
